Elston Gunn's WEEKLY SCRIPT REPORT (Major Sales, Events, and other News!)

* Producer Bill Mechanic picked up UNTITLED CUBA PROJECT, a thriller pitch and treatment from Caspian Tredwell-Owen for Tony Scott to direct and produce. Tredwell-Owen will write the script based on his own idea which is set in a turbulent post-Castro Cuba and centers on criminal organizations that join to exploit the new democracy.

* Revolution Studios picked up the comedy pitch DADDY BOOT CAMP by Deborah Dean Davis and based on a real boot camp for fathers about what to do when their wives give birth. The story follows a man who goes to the camp and discovers that their newest rookie is an older burned-out guy who turns out to be his dad.

* Columbia Pictures bought Mark Mullin's suspense/thriller pitch UNTITLED SMOKEJUMPERS PROJECT about the adventures of "the Green Berets of firefighting."

* David Hollander will write and direct an untitled high-concept love story for Intermedia Films. It centers on a man who experiences 10 years of his live out of order in a 10 day span.

* Dustin Lee Abraham has sold his feature pitch UNTITLED OLIVER TWIST UPDATE to Paul Attanasio and Katie Jacobs' Paramount-based Heel and Toe Prods. It's about a young Oliver living as a club-hopping rave kid living in foster homes.

* Michael Chabon (WONDER BOYS) will write the script adaptation of his novel THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER AND CLAY for Scott Rudin Prods. and Paramount Pictures. It's about the two boys who write comic books during the 1930s.

The Thanksgiving holiday made for a short report. My pick of the week is THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER AND CLAY. I enjoyed WONDER BOYS and the premise to this one intrigues me enough to give the project my full attention, but I imagine it'll be a while before we hear much more about this one.
