Linda Seger, Author and Leading Script Consultant Passed Away in February
May 11th, 2026
I missed this back in February, author and script consultant Linda Seger passed away. I knew Linda Seger, met her once at a screenwriting conference that I was also speaking at back when my book Screenwriting on the Internet: Researching, Writing and Selling Your Script on the Web in 2001. I also interviewed her here along with Syd Field they created the "Script Consultant" with their ground breaking books on screenwriting and their knowledge of screen storytelling.
Seger started script consulting business in 1981. Her doctoral dissertation, “What Makes a Script Work?” formed the foundarion of the Seger Method. Her first book on screenwriting, Making a Good Script Great: A Guide for Writing and Rewriting, was published in 1987 was excellent and I still have my copy.
She influenced such filmmakers as Ron Howard and his amazing film Apollo 13 (1995). Seger was a consultant on numerous films including on Jackson’s Dead Alive and Emmerich’s Universal Soldier, and many other films. The sign of a good script consultant is one that gets hired by people in the industry.
She is missed and the screenwriting world lost a great one.
