Hollywood Writers Concerned About A.I.?

In 1997 when Chess Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen lost to an A.I. chess bot the world was shocked.  But quickly people lost interest in A.I. and stopped talking about it.  "The AI chess bots are now vastly better than any human player who has ever lived, but — and this is important — nobody cares about them," wrote The Hollywood Reporter

Now A.I. is everywhere including the movies, and writing.  I've tried A.I. and it does an amazing job writing fiction; scary good actually.  Human beings were always better than technology, because A.I. couldn't develop one crucial thing with regard to writing fiction; emotion and convey something with emotion. Human scripts are layered with drama and emotion that A.I. could not replicated.  Now all that has changed.  A.I. writes fiction with an amazing sense of emotion to the point where it's hard to noticed the difference between human's writing and A.I.

Algorithms on social media platforms and movie providers such as Netflix pick up on what you like to watch and provide you with more types of similar movies or shows.  A.I. algorithms are now matching human's sensibilties it seems.  Should the writer be concerned? There's some in Hollywood that worry that, “a person will be able to sit at a computer and create a movie indistinguishable from what Hollywood releases.”

It's already incredibly hard for writers to find employment and sell their scripts in Hollywood, Hollywood has changed.  There was a time when several hundred spec scripts sold and made headlines, now it's down to barely any it seems.  How attractive will it be to an Executive at someplace like Netflixs to use A.I. to quickly develop their ideas instead of hiring a writer?

But, according to David Scarpa of The Hollywood Reporter, he says writer's should not worry as "the supply of human drama, written by real writers and performed by real actors, will remain as scarce and valuable as ever."

Well lets hope he is right and there is nothing to worry as a writer. Time will tell.
