The Family Stone

Not only do I want the money back that I spent on renting this garbage but I also want the hour and a half of my life back that I spent watching it. It's as if the screenwriter went step by step on the guidelines of writing a formulaic, liberal, politically correct movie. Not that I have anything against that but when it crosses over the line and becomes completley unrealistic, no one is going to take it seriously. Prime example, the entire family is coming home to mom and dad's house for Christmas. Which actually surprised me, keeping in line with the politically correct theme, I thought they'd be coming home for "winter break." One of the son's is deaf, gay, and has a black boyfriend which everyone accepts with open arms, it's the politically correct trifecta! Diane Keaton is probably the worst in purpetrating the politically correct theme of this movie. She doesn't understand why one of her son's girlfriend doesn't want to sleep with her son in the same bed while they are there. "Aren't you having sex, yet" is the comment she makes to her son. Wow, what a class act. How about having a little respect for the son's parents -- no wait, scratch that, they don't deserve any. Moving onto dinner, one of the girlfriends makes the comment that she doubts that anyone would want their son to be gay. The next five minutes is the parents crucifying the girl for her comment. I'm surprised they didn't string her up for being slightly conservative. This goes on and on and on. It becomes so unrealistic that it actually becomes funny to an extent, which I don't think was intended. The rest of the movie goes on in your typical formulaic manner. Nothing original here. Oh, and they're all happy in the end.
