Diamond Dead: third draft
June 19th, 2004
by Leslie S. Russell
I just finished reading George A. Romero’s “Diamond Dead” written by, Brian Cooper and to paraphrase Spyder Sin, one of the characters in the script, it is either the most noble thing I have ever read or the most disgusting.
It is actually very well written though, at just under a hundred pages, a little light in the pants. That’s the good news; the bad news is that while Diamond Dead claims to be a comedy it isn’t very funny. Well the third draft isn’t funny. The weird thing is that I couldn’t stop reading it. It was like a car wreck, another line from the script, I knew it would be horrible but I couldn’t turn away.
But the important thing about the script isn’t whether it is good or bad but that you and I can watch it go from birth to the glorious death that it will die on screen. But that seems to be what the writers, producers, and others involved with the project want. To quote the trailer: death rocks.
