The Boy Who Saved Baseball

When I read Booklist's review of this book, it struck me that I'll probably see this onscreen before too long. The concept for "The Boy Who Saved Baseball", by John Ritter (not the late actor), is the stuff a good family picture is made of. A ragtag ball team goes up against a mob of corporate land developers when their ball field is about to be taken away from them. The kids must play the game of their lives in order to keep the field, but they haven't won a game yet. Great concept. Unfortunately, the writing of this book left me wanting more. The characters are not fully developed. The kids speak very intelligently, while the adults come off as larger than life caricatures of a one-dimensional circus performer. In other words, pretty dang wacky. Still, since baseball is getting to be hot in Hollywood once again, look for this one to hit a home run with some hopeful producer out there. Mr. Ritter, if I had the funds I'd option it myself.
