David Franzoni

King Arthur (2004)
Gladiator (2000)
Amistad (1997)
Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986)

The writer seems drawn to historically based stories and has demonstrated a keen eye for finding very cinematic ideas. In 1985, Franzoni first ventured into the past with unacredited rewrites on the "Red Sonja" script. After taking a brief break for comedy with the Whoopi Goldberg espionage escapade "Jumpin Jack Flash", a subpar film for which he received a 'story by' credit, it clearly wasn't Franzoni's cup of tea. He moved into more serious territory with Steven Spielberg's historical drama, "Amistad". Franzoni fully realized his attraction to the historical-based adventure story when he collaborated with John Logan on "Gladiator". Which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
