Universal and Imagine have plucked THE ORIGINALS a drama written by Bryce Dallas Howard and writing partner Dane Charbeneau that could serve as a directing vehicle for her father, Ron Howard.

THE ORIGINALS is an ensemble film about a group of twentysomethings who reconvene for a weekend in New York after learning that the teacher who shaped their childhoods has fallen into a mysterious coma.

Howard is represented by ICM and Management 360.

Kurt Wimmer has been nabbed to write the script for Columbia Pictures' new version of TOTAL RECALL.

The original, based on the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale," follows a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air.

The studio is keeping mum on the slant of the new version, simply calling it a "contemporized adaptation." Neal H. Moritz is developing and producing the project through his Original Films banner.

Matt Johnson sold TRANS AM to Warner Bros. The action script centers on a disgraced sheriff's deputy and a repentant getaway driver who must elude a federal manhunt when they join forces to bring an escaped bank robber to justice. The action unfolds along the Mississippi River in the vein of a Deep South-set "48 HRS."

Johnson's credits include the 2004 thriller TORQUE.
