According to IGN and The Boston Herald, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet is in talks to adapt the book "The Prince of Providence." Michael Corrente (A SHOT A GLORY) will reportedly direct. They teamed up in 1996 for Mamet's AMERICAN BUFFALO, starring Dustin Hoffman.
The story is about the corrupt ex-Providence mayor, Vincent "Buddy" Cianci Jr. Cianci is described as "Soprano"-esque, but was also a visionary on several levels according to sources. A flawed political genius with a lust for power that cost him his marriage, his family, and close friendships. Yet he also revitalized the city of Providence, where ethnic factions jostle with old-moneyed New Englanders.
Mamet reportedly read the book and flipped over the material.
Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Paul Giamatti and Michael Chiklis are reportedly being considered for the lead role.
