Hollywood script deals
MTV Films has purchased the spec script ``Fothermuckers,''
by first-time feature writer Shaina Carol for a cool
mid-six-figures
The storyline concerns a college kid whose life unravels
when he comes home for the summer and learns that his best
friend from high school has moved in with his recently
divorced mother and is having an affair with her.

Screenwriter Charles Kaufman (``Being John Malkovich'')
has a new project in development at Columbia Pictures.
The script is very loosely based on Susan Orlean's non-
fiction tome ``The Orchid Thief,'' first published by
Random House in January.
The ``Orchid'' centers on a screenwriter hired to adapt a
onfiction book who is rapidly becoming unhinged as it
becomes clear that he is unable to perform the task,
enlisting his ``brother'' to help him.

Scribe Chris Murphy has sold his spec script ``Rain Delay''
to Paramount Pictures for an initial low-six-figure sum.
If the movie is made, his total payday could rise to the
high-six-figure range.
The storyline centers on a poignant relationship between a
minor league baseball player who never really got his shot
and the young protege who helps him turn his life around.

Nicolas Cage's Saturn Films has optioned Greg Small
and Richard Blaney's edgy drama spec script called
"Chain."
