WGA contract talks break off
May 12th, 2004
According to a "Hollywood Reporter" report late today, the WGA contract talks broke down Wednesday as Hollywood's writers said that the terms offered by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers were unacceptable because they offer nothing in terms of DVD or
Internet residuals or jurisdiction over reality, nonfiction television or
animation production. The writers said they are willing to continue
negotiating but first intend to seek input from their 11,000 members,
principally at a meeting Monday. The impasse comes three days after the
expiration of the current Minimum Basic Agreement and significantly raises
the possibility of a strike.
