Gibson's PASSION Skews Numbers, Hollywood's Films Are Not Drawing Like They Used
May 12th, 2004
"The Passion of the Christ" has covered up a sagging box office. Without its success, the BO would have been down by an unheard 5% compared to the same period last year. But thanks to the runaway success of Mel Gibson's "Passion", receipts are up by 15% in the first three months of 2004. The Passion's ticket sales of $318m represents some 18% of the total of all the films released in the first quarter, while the Adam Sandler comedy, 50 First Dates, was the only other release to earn more than $100m.
