LOTR: RETURN OF THE KING Does it...
May 12th, 2004
Well, there were lots of us in the media who have been hopeful that Peter Jackson, and co-writers Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh would win Best Picture and they did. But I have also been vocal about Best Adapted Screenplay, and thankfully, the Academy got it right (the WGA did not) and recognized their work by awarding them the Oscar. Jackson also won for Best Director, thus making it a sweep. Which was as it should be.
Sofia Coppola won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, which was clearly no surprise and she was worthy. For more information and winners check back in the morning.
