The novel is considered to in the vein of BRIDGET JONE'S DIARY and WAITING TO EXHALE -- following a black woman's journey to self-discovery. One day on a impulse, Venus Johnston stops fussing with long, processed straight hair, cuts it short and kicks out her commitment-phobic live-in boyfriend. Discovering a newfound personal freedom and satisfaction, she is unprepared for the way friends and co-workers weigh in about her new self.
