Robert Towne to Direct Next Pic

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Towne will direct a big-screen adaptation of Glen David Gold's novel "Carter Beats the Devil" for Paramount Pictures-based C/W Prods. Paramount optioned the project for C/W and Towne earlier this year. Also, newcomer Michael Arndt came aboard to adapt.
Published in September by Hyperion Press, the book is set in 1920s America and follows Charles Carter, aka Carter the Great, a brilliant stage magician known for outrageous stunts carried out on elaborate sets.
