Screenwriter Ivan Moffat Dead at age 84...
July 11th, 2002
The Associated Press is reporting this morning that Ivan Moffat died of a stroke July 4. He was 84. Moffat is best remembered for his work (and nominated for an Academy Award with Fred Guiol) for the screen adaptation of Edna Ferber's novel GIANT. Moffat was Born in Cuba and studied at the London College of Economics and served in the Army during World War II where he was an Allied documentary filmmaker.
GIANT stared Rock Hudson and James Dean and garnered 10 Academy Award nominations. Moffat co-write a favorite of mine, BLACK SUNDAY with Ernest Lehman and Kenneth Ross. His other credits include TENDER IS THE NIGHT, THE WAYWARD BUS, and BOY ON A DOLPHIN. Of recent he served as an associate producer on SHANE and A PLACE IN THE SUN.
He will be missed.
