Holland teams with Kelley
March 13th, 2002
Emmy-winning TV director Todd Holland, who helps to make Malcolm in the Middle what it is, will direct the pilot of mad TV genius David E. Kelleys latest project, girls club. Kelleys new show is a legal comedy/drama set in San Francisco.
Kelley was the showrunner at L.A. Law, where he won a boatload of Emmys, he moved on to create Chicago Hope (back when he wrote all the shows it was good) and Picket Fences (more Emmys), and then he created back-to-back hits Ally McBeal and The Practice. (With those programs, Kelley became the only producer to have shows win both the drama and comedy award on the Emmys.) Kelleys latest show is Boston Public.
Kelley is famous for writing all of his shows by himself. At one point last year Kelley was pumping out three hour-long drama scripts a week. Hes backed off an inch this year: hes written every Ally (which he always does), at least co-wrote every Boston, but has handed off The Practice (for the first time, hes only been credited with a few episodes this year).
