Unsinkable Dave Kelley creates yet another show
February 13th, 2002
David E. Kelley, who currently writes and produces three hour-long dramas, has committed to develop a series for Fox Broadcasting/20th Century Fox Television.
The show is still in its early development stage, but it is said to center on the lives of three female lawyers living together in San Francisco.
Because this is Dave Kelley, the show was given a thirteen-episode commitment.
Unlike THE UNDERSTUDY, which David E. Kelley will executive produce but not have a day-to-day participation in (it was created by friend and ALLY MCBEAL showrunner Bill DElia), it seems Kelley will handle the chores on this new series.
If he does, thatll have to be some sort of record. Four hour-long shows on the air? While Kelley got blasted for writing all his shows in the post-success backlash, he seems to have slowed down this year: hes co-written or written every BOSTON PUBLIC, written every ALLY MCBEAL, but has handed off a large chunk of THE PRACTICE. (Of course, whatever you see onscreen has gone through his pen.)
I guess if anyone can do it, he can. But its a daunting challenge: coming up with more lawyer plots with two lawyer shows already on the air!
Well, he hasnt disappointed yet.
