Did Spielberg Steal SMALL SOLDIERS?

According to reports, an aspiring screenwriter is claiming Steven Spielberg stole his idea for DreamWorks' 1998 picture SMALL SOLDIERS.

"We see this as a little guy against the big guy case," says Ira Reiner, the former L.A. district attorney who represents plaintiff Gregory Grant. "It is highly unlikely that a jury will conclude anything other than that there was copying here."

The copyright case, filed last year in federal court in Los Angeles, is headed for trial early next year.

Interestingly enough, the plaintiff's ex-wife is a "co-writer."

"Spielberg sought out the ex-wife after we sued, and bought her off for $20,000," the plaintiff's attorney claims. "We can show that the only thing she did was type up the script and clean up the grammar."
