Consortium of studios taking VOD Net plunge

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Five major Hollywood studios said Thursday that they have created a joint venture to give consumers true video-on-demand via a broadband connection, potentially making good on an industry promise to deliver feature films securely via the Internet.
The coalition includes MGM, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios and Warner Bros.
The yet-unnamed service has been under construction for several months under the code name MovieFly, originally a Sony initiative that was to involve other studios.
