Spike Lee To Develop TV Drama Series

Spike Lee's films seem to have nothing new to say anymore. Maybe that's why he is now looking to do his thing in Television. Variety is reporting that the Oscar-nominated director, whose latest feature, BAMBOOZLED is interestingly enough extremely critical of the TV biz, has signed a one-year development deal with Studios USA ("Law & Order") to developed several new series. "I've always wanted to do television. It's a frontier I've never been able to crack," Lee told Variety. Lee refused to discuss specific ideas, but did say that his first priority will likely be creating a drama series.

Lee will develop drama and comedy series as executive producer. He's also expected to direct pilot episodes of any scripts greenlit for production. "There's a whole wide world outside of the sitcom, and it seems like African-Americans are ghettoized into (TV sitcoms)," he said. "I don't think sitcoms should be blown off, but I'd love to go in a different direction."
